There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. As long as the bone and gum tissue surrounding the teeth are healthy, orthodontic treatment is highly successful and provides lasting results even in older adult patients. Today, with increasing aesthetic concerns and the development of technologically advanced treatment options that are not visible from the outside, such as clear aligners, the number of adult patients is quite high. Because bone metabolism is slower in older adults, tooth movement may progress slightly slower compared to children, but when treatment planning is done correctly, there is no difference in the final success rate. Before treatment, the patient’s periodontal condition (gum health) is examined in detail, and after any gum problems are resolved, the application of braces or aligners begins.
Does getting orthodontic treatment at an older age provide definitive aesthetic and functional results?
