How does the orthodontic treatment process progress for patients with implants, porcelain veneers, or bridge prostheses?

Updated on: April 27, 2026

Orthodontic treatment is possible for patients with pre-existing implants, porcelain veneers, or bridges, but the planning process differs somewhat from that for natural teeth. Because implants are fixed to the jawbone with titanium screws, they cannot be moved by orthodontic forces like natural teeth. Therefore, the treatment plan is based on using implants as fixed anchor points; natural teeth are shaped around the implants. In teeth with porcelain crowns, the adhesion of brackets to the surface is more difficult than to natural enamel. To overcome this, special porcelain acids and adhesive agents that do not damage the crown surface are used. With meticulous mechanical planning, taking all restorations into account, aesthetic and functional orthodontic success can be achieved even in patients who have undergone prosthetic treatments.
