What are some natural home remedies to speed up the healing process after impacted tooth extraction?

Updated on: April 27, 2026

In addition to medical treatment (antibiotics and painkillers) after impacted tooth extraction, proper at-home care significantly accelerates healing. Applying a cold compress (ice) to the outside of the cheek intermittently (holding for 10 minutes and removing for 10 minutes) during the first 24 hours is the most effective method to minimize edema and swelling. After the first day, rinsing your mouth very gently with lukewarm salt water several times a day (not gargling, just swirling the water around) provides both natural disinfection and supports tissue repair. Herbal teas such as chamomile or sage can be consumed lukewarm due to their anti-inflammatory properties. The most important natural healing method, however, is to get plenty of rest, sleep with your head elevated, and avoid any hot, strenuous, or stressful activities that would increase blood flow to the wound area.
